WATERCOLOR-ON-THE-GO!
Plein Air at Eagle Harbor Marina
Bainbridge 2008

Would you like to discover exciting new shapes, concepts and designs for your paintings? This two day workshop will help you do just that!
The first day we will be sketching on location with contour line and ink. I will give a short demonstration. Then we will add a little watercolor to our drawings. We will be able to do several quick studies outdoors. Day two will be back in the studio. We will paint our watercolor using a sketch from the pervious day. I will demonstrate how to begin a painting using a rich saturated wash. I will encourage you to think about using new color combinations, layering techniques, glazing and negative shape painting. I will also demonstrate how to create excitement and drama at the center of interest using strong value and color change. There will be a fun and lively critique at the end of the session.
"My goal is to inspire the artist to look for new ways to express their creativity and have FUN in the process"

You must not learn to play the piano or take photographs like someone else. You must learn the craft, after which you can take photographs like yourself.” - Ansel Adams

Beginning Watercolor

Carole will teach beginning and intermediate students basic watercolor techniques:

  • Wet-into-wet washes
  • Wet-into-dry washes
  • How to mix vibrant colors
  • Using shapes to build subject matter
  • Basic design principles.

There will be a demonstration in the morning. In the afternoon, students will work on their own paintings. There will be a fun and lively critique at the end of the session.

If you have always wanted to paint with watercolors but have felt intimidated by the medium or been told that watercolors are just too hard, this is the class for you!

Intense Watercolors from Photographs
(Intermediate- Advanced)

There are many reasons for wanting to paint from a photograph; having wonderful photos from your travels, inclement weather, or time limitations. However, painting from photos can often prove to be a challenge.

Finding ways to interpret the photo and bring life, movement, and originality to the painting are focal points of the workshop. She will encourage the student to think about using new color combinations, layering techniques, glazing and negative shape painting.

Carole will also demonstrate how to create excitement and drama at the center of interest using strong value and color change. She will give a demonstration in the morning and allow time for the students to work on their own paintings in the afternoon. There will be a fun and lively critique at the end of the session.
